CRPD District Office Moves to New Location

04/24/13

CRPD’s District Office Making a Move

On May 15, the Cordova Recreation & Park District's main office, which has been in the Hagan Community Park, will have a new place to call home. Currently, the administration offices are adjacent to the Cordova Community Center, located in Hagan Community Park.

“When the front of Cordova Community Center was renovated to comply with ADA requirements, the front of the community center also got a facelift,” said Jim Rodems, CRPD District Administrator.  “Unfortunately, our office space did not get renovated.”

Cordova Community Center will still remain very active with classes and rentals.  Some of the office space will be used by our maintenance and recreation staff.

“At this time, it is much more cost effective to move than to renovate the antiquated systems in the current administration office,” Rodems continued.  “We received a very good deal to rent new office space, centrally located in our expanding district.  It would have been foolish for us to turn it down.”

The new administration office will move to the Rancho Cordova City Hall building located at 2729 Prospect Park Drive, Suite 230, Rancho Cordova (near White Rock Road and Zinfandel Drive).  The new office space will give staff access to modern technology, provide more opportunities build relationships with local businesses, government agencies and the community as a whole.

The District Office will be closed May 9-14 while we make the move. You can still register for all of our programs and classes online or in person at any of our other facilities (see list below for location and contact information). The move will be complete and the office will re-open for business on May 15.

A Year of Change

04/14/13

Year of Change, Growing Pains Put Cordova Recreation & Park District on the Right Path!

One year ago, Cordova Recreation and Park District was in crisis. Today, the District is well on its way to recovery and facing a bright future. It wasn’t an easy journey, but it was very necessary for the survival of CPRD and the communities it serves.

“Much of the work that needed to be done was internal and structural,” said Jim Rodems, CRPD District Administrator. “I am amazed at the way our staff has stepped up and made crucial changes in a relatively short period of time. We have a great team, and we’ve made a lot of progress in 14 months.”

One Year Ago:  $1.6 Million Deficit

Today: CRPD has done the difficult and on-going task of balancing the budget.

One Year Ago:  Cost Overruns on Projects

Today: Management has implemented strict budget controls, without sacrificing quality.

One Year Ago:  Thirty Percent Reduction in Workforce Due to Economy

Today: The District has reorganized all of its departments to more efficiently maintain facilities and more effectively deliver services to the community.

One Year Ago:  Outdated Staff Practices, Policies and Procedures

Today: CRPD has instituted an operational overhaul to modernize staff procedures and implement industry best practices.

And the hard work continues...

The District is not finished. Change takes time. But CRPD is continuing the process of growth and improvement. The District appreciates the community’s support and input. Both management and staff are grateful for the CRPD Board’s vision to implement the strong leadership and change management that has gotten us to this point.

As part of CRPD’s ongoing efforts to better serve our community, the District will send out occasional “Community Updates” to community members and stakeholders. Communication is the key to understanding and building relationships. We hope to get the word out about the good work CRPD and our partners are doing to serve the residents of our District. Two Thumbs Up from Peter Cottontail

04/01/13
Hoppin’ and Huntin’ a Win With Everyone

(Rancho Cordova, CA) – Peter Cottontail hopped on over to Hagan Community Park on Saturday, March 30 for the annual egg hunt and spring festivities. He was joined by over 1500 people to celebrate all things spring and Easter during the annual event.

As always, the Rotary Club of Rancho Cordova’s Egg Hunt was the main attraction, bringing children between the ages of 2-10, baskets in hand, ready to collect as many candy filled eggs as possible. However, this year the structure of the egg hunt was different. Children were given multiple opportunities to hunt for eggs throughout the event versus having just one large hunt. This meant smaller groups at each hunt and families staying throughout the event to enjoy the warm spring day, games, bounce houses, bobble lagoon activity, and crafts stations.

For those that were hungry, the Rancho Cordova Kiwanis Club served up piping hot pancakes to over 100 people.

For those that were STILL hungry, the day ended with a messy and fun pie eating contest where 48 pies were consumed by those who signed up throughout the day. The contest was broken up by 3 age groups: juniors (ages 11-13), teens (ages 14-17), and adults (ages 18+). Each age group winner walked away with a tasty (uneaten) pie and an additional prize.

Peter Cottontail, aka the Easter Bunny, was a hit at the photo booth where over 150 families had their pictures taken with him.
