Classes or Activities that generally require pre-enrollment.
Date: Saturday, December 01, 2007 At 10:00:00 AM
Duration: 2 Hours
Join one of the fastest-growing outdoor adventures! This class will provide an exciting introduction to Geocaching and send you on your way to track down some of the Geocaches hidden right here in the Rancho Cordova and Sacramento area. Geocaching uses GPS receivers and computers, to put a space-age twist on age old fun. Find hidden “treasures” or caches and explore new places using your GPS receiver and computer. A GPS receiver is recommended but not required.
Geocaching began in 2000 when President Bill Clinton removed the encryption from the GPS satellite network, making it usable by consumers. Within days, the hobby of using a GPS receiver to find hidden treasures in the outdoor was born. Today there are nearly 400,000 Geocaches hidden around the world, with nearly 50,000 individual Geocachers logging ‘finds’ every week. If you’re interested, snoop around www.geocaching.com to learn more. Class will be 2 hrs. Starting with a 1 hour presentation, and followed by 1 hour of geocaching (in the field*).
